Being part of the same RI family, a group of fellow Rotarians & Rotaractors from RI District 2710 (Hiroshima, Yamaguchi) in Japan was warmly received on both September 17 & 18. A total of 17 Japanese delegates from RI District 2710, including 3 Rotarians and 14 Rotaractors visited Hong Kong this time. Most expressed that it was their first time to visit Hong Kong and they treasured this great occasion to meet local Rotarians and Rotaractors very much.

Welcoming dinner was held on the night of September 17 at a traditional Chinese restaurant. With the support from our fellow Rotary District leaders, together with the hospitality of 25 local Rotaractors, all Japanese delegates enjoyed a fun-filled night in Hong Kong.

Before the commencement of dinner, we sang Rotaract song together. Familiar melody, repeated lyrics “Come join the world of Rotaract” broke the barrier of language difference as well as cultural difference among us, giving us a memorable start of the night.

During the dinner, DG David gave a welcoming speech and introduced his yearly project “The One” to the Japanese delegation. All Japanese Rotarians and Rotaractors were so impressed by this meaningful project. Following DG David’s presentation, DRC Vincent also expressed his heartfelt welcome to the Japanese delegation. Besides, through her presentation, DRR Edwina further pictured the structure of RI District 3450 and showed the attractiveness of Hong Kong to all the delegates. Meanwhile, DRR Noriko Ogura of RI District 2710 also showed thankfulness to our hospitable receive and proper arrangements on their visit.

In return for that, representatives from both RI District 3450 & 2710 exchanged their district souvenir as nice gesture.

Group photos, games, body languages, smiling faces could be seen throughout the dinner, the whole VIP room was flooded with uninterrupted laughs. Keeping up the exciting mood, our district board members led the Japanese Rotaractors to some famous tourist spots, including the Avenue of Stars, the Victoria Harbour, Bar Street in Knutsford Terrace at Tsim Sha Tsui. Our friendship is thus building up invisibly and speedily.
More highlights came on the next day. Over 20 Rotaractors from Japan and Hong Kong joined the sightseeing day. All the Japanese delegates were brought to some other well-known tourist attractions in Hong Kong, namely Hong Kong Museum of History, The Peak, Pottinger Street, Lascar Row and Man Mo Temple in Central, Ladies’ Market in Mongkok, shopping centres in Causeway Bay. They also got the chance to take tram, one of the earliest forms of public transport in Hong Kong, from Central to Causeway Bay. Above all, they were guided to try many different local foods, like Dim Sum, sugar cane juice, egg tarts. All these experiences were so fresh to them and we shared a joyful day together.
Though two days time was undoubtedly too short for all of us, we did cherish every moment to play, share and make friends with each other. Hopefully, this strong linkage between two RI Districts can be kept up forever and we are looking forward to our visit to RI District 2710 as well.

Rotaract District Installation 2011-12 cum District Awards Presentation Ceremony 2010-11 has been successfully held on 30th of July at Regal Hong Kong Hotel. This event was well-received by Rotarians & Rotaractors and has attained an outstanding attendance. More than 60 Rotarians, including DG David Harilela, PDG Anthony Hung, PDG Peter Wong, PDG Tony Wong, various District leaders and Rotaract Advisors attended the ceremony to witness this remarkable occasion. In addition, more than 160 Rotaractors from 31 Rotaract Clubs in Hong Kong and Macao joined to celebrate the commencement of a new Rotaract Year as well.

During the ceremony, IPDRC Wendy Mung and IPDRR Anita Chan highlighted the achievements and breakthroughs of the previous Rotaract year. Meanwhile, IPDRC Wendy also brought us a good news that several new Rotaract Clubs are going to be chartered in Rotaract District 3450. Following their touching speeches, IPDRC Wendy introduced DRC Vincent Ng to the audience and IPDRR Anita passed the DRR belt to DRR Edwina Chung, symbolizing the installation of the District Rotaract Committee 2011-12. Members of the Rotaract Executive Committee (a newly formed committee under the new Rotaract Structure) were pinned by DG David and New Generations Committee Chair PDG Tony as well. DRC Vincent then explained the new Rotaract Structure and DRR Edwina presented her year plan themed “Be an All-rounded Rotaractor” for the brand new year.

After the formal installation ceremony, Rotaract District Committee 2010-11 held an interactive and entertaining District Awards Presentation Ceremony to recognize contributions made by Rotaract Advisors and Rotaract Clubs last year. Different awards from nine categories like Outstanding Advisors, Presidential Citation, Most Valued Rotaractor, Long Year Service Award, Outstanding Project Awards, Rotaract Club of the Year and more were presented. PDRR Vincent (2005-06) from Rotaract Club of Kowloon West is the only Rotaractor who gets the 10 Year Service Award in Rotaract Year 2010-11. The Awards Presentation Ceremony was closed in the climax of the announcement of Rotaract Club of the Year – Rotaract Club of New Territories (Community-based) and Rotaract Club of Shaw College, CUHK (University-based).

With this successful start, DRC and REC 2011-12 promise to keep organizing various district level activities and offering support to Rotaract Clubs. Together we hope to attain a memorable Rotaract Year of “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity”.

The 2012-2013 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships offered by District 3450 are now AVAILABLE!

The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships Program is the world’s largest privately funded international scholarship program. Scholars study in a country other than their own where they serve as unofficial ambassadors of goodwill. Nearly 700 scholarships were awarded for study in 2009-10. Through grants totaling approximately US$16.2 million, recipients from about 70 countries studied in more than 80 nations.

Without Rotarian participation, the Scholarships program would provide students with funding assistance only. We need YOUR help in promoting scholarship availability, attracting strong candidates, and selecting the most-qualified scholars. I’ve attached the scholarship leaflet for your reference and please help promote this wonderful educational program of Rotary Foundation.

Further information and application forms can be downloaded from our District website: http://www.rotary3450.org/service/scholarship/
